Tree crops

Tree crops are groves or orchards of trees grown for some type of economic or environmental benefit. Tree crops may be grown in massive quantities but are also popular for small businesses and family farms.

OIL PALM

Palm oil, obtained from the fruits. It is used in foods, cleaning products, medicines, self-care products, and cosmetics, candles. Palm oil is trans-fat free and is cheaper than other oils, global demand for palm oil has nearly tripled since 2000.

It takes about 4 – 5 years to produce fruits suitable for harvesting, each tree continues to produce fruits for up to 30 years. Each tree can produce 10 tonnes of fresh fruit bunches per hectare. On average 3.9 tonnes of crude palm oil and 0.5 tonnes of palm kernel oil can be extracted per hectare.

 

COCOA

Cocoa solid, cocoa butter, and chocolate are all rich sources of antioxidants.

In 2017, the global cultivation area of cocoa increased 11% from the previous year. The demand for organic cocoa is expected to increase more.

Fruit production begins when the tree reaches 3- 5 years old. Pod production continues until the tree reaches about 40 years of age.

Cashew, Plantain  can be considered as well.

Arables

 Grain crops; cultivated grasses and millet grown for their edible starch grains (wheat, maize, rice, barley). Pulse crops; edible seeds from the legume family, high in protein (lentil, beans, peas). Tuber crops (potato, cassava)

RICE

Rice is one of the most consumed staples in Nigeria. Domestic production has never been able to meet the demand, there is an opportunity for you to invest in this business.
Rice has both food and industrial uses. 

Broken rice is used in brewing, distilling, and in the manufacture of starch and rice flour. Hulls are used for fuel, packing material, industrial grinding, fertilizer manufacture
The average yield of rice (seeds) per hectare is 3 – 6 tons and with us, you will get more.

The rice plant usually takes 3-6 months from germination to maturity, depending on the variety and the environment.

 

SOYBEANS

Soybeans take less energy to grow than other crops, producing fewer greenhouse gases. Processed for their oil and meal; for the animal feed industry, a smaller percentage is processed for human consumption and made into products including soy milk, soy flour, soy protein, tofu and many retail food products. Soybeans are also used in many non-food (industrial) products.

Average soybean yield for the farms is 41.7 bushels per acre (2.81 metric tons per hectare).

Soybeans for shelling and fresh use are ready for harvest 45 to 65 days after sowing. Dry soybeans require 100 or more days to reach harvest.

Others to consider include Tuber crops (potato, cassava). Lentils, Cowpea, Maize, Beans.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and Vegetables are rich in important minerals and vitamins, and also contain fibers which can help protect against diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular and heart diseases.

AVOCADO

Also known as an alligator pear or butter fruit.  Nigeria is still lagging behind in response to the growing demand for Avocado, which has seen a steep increase in international market prices. There is a big potential advantage if you invest in this business.

The health benefits include improving digestion, decreasing risk of depression, and protection against cancer, the versatile avocado is the only fruit that provides a substantial amount of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids.

First fruit  can be seen 3 to 4 years after planting. If you are growing from a seed, it can take anywhere from five to 13 years before the tree is mature enough to set fruit.

LEAFY GREEN

There is always demand for leafy vegetables due to their nutritional and medicinal values.

Other crops to consider under this category include Tomatoes, water melon, Banana, Eggplant,  Oranges.
